As the acting principle engineer created a team of kubernetes engineers to focus on creating a developer friendly platform built off of Openshift. Took over being the manager of this team and report directly to the Head of platform.My day to day includes:- Developing a high performing remote friendly team. Currently lead 8 engineers based all over the USA.- Listening to the the needs of our developers and business partners. Spend a good portion of my day learning how we can build a better platform to lead upstart into the future.- Being a scrum master, organizing sprints, delegating work. Making sure the right people are leading the right projects. - Building up engineers. Finding ways to keep my engineers learning and growing. I set the bar high and look for leaders to help challenge the team to do better.- Being a decision maker when needed, but empowering my engineers to take ownership of the platform.

Help lead and develop the devops culture at upstart. Moved our platform / monolith from heroku to Openshift on AWS.Worked on projects like:- Built out our original kubernetes infrastructure on top of AWS. This infrastructure enabled us to grow and eventually become a public company. - Lead the implementation of a custom “GitOps” setup for SOC 1/2 change controls. - Supported engineering teams building out projects on our kubernetes infrastructure. Built CI/CD pipelines to deploy many products / services.- Enabled support for complex kubernetes concepts, like custom auto scaling with Prometheus. This lead us to scale smarter and focus on cost control by not running un-needed infrastructure during off hours.- Helped interview / hire / and train the original DevOps team that carried us through to the companies IPO.- Participated in a weekly on-call rotation supporting multiple customer facing / critical services.- Wrote many of the original Jenkinsfiles along with the original JSL (jenkins shared library) that is still used today.- Helped build out observability tools into our kubernetes cluster to empower developers to understand the health of their applications.
