To be an outstanding teacher, I believe that one needs a sense of flexibility and adaptation. When it comes to the day to day in the classroom, events may arise where the teacher may need to adjust instruction to maximize their teaching. Students have sporting events, pep rallies, and so many other activities that sometimes take away from instructional time, so a teacher must be prepared to adjust their lesson accordingly. An outstanding teacher also needs to be able to adapt to the wide range of learners in their classrooms. Howard Gardner, an educational philosopher that I have studied through my post secondary education time, said “When Einstein had thought through a problem, he always found it necessary to formulate this subject in as many different ways as possible and to present it so that it would be comprehensible to people accustomed to different modes of thought and with different educational preparations.” I really do not think I could have said it any better because this is the mindset that an outstanding teacher needs to have in their classroom to ensure the success of all their students.
