I returned to an affiliate to re-connect local partners, at-risk in the service area, on-the-ground efforts and day-to-day operations. This renewal of experience became essential to next role in disaster preparedness, resilience and recovery.

I moved to Habitat for Humanity International to manage a national 5-year program that provided instruction, support and funding to affiliates in the construction and certification of sustainable houses. I also managed a similar program designed for critical repairs to existing houses. The affiliate was building 6 houses a year with all volunteers when I was hired as the first construction staff and General Contractor. During my tenure the affiliate began certifying all houses to System Vision and added ENERGY STAR, NC Healthy Built Homes and LEED certifications. The affiliate was recognized by Advanced Energy for the tightest System Vision house and by the NC Housing Finance Agency for an attractive, fully System Vision certified community. The construction staff grew to 3 site supervisors and 5 AmeriCorps members and the affiliate built 15 to 18 houses a year.
