While I completed coursework for further specialization in bioengineering, I also conducted experiments both on in vitro human and in vivo mouse models to transiently modulate the blood-brain and blood-spinal cord barriers using a combination of intravenously injected targeting plasmonic gold nanoparticles and ultrashort pulsed picosecond laser stimulation. With this technique, I could enhance delivery of therapeutic viruses (carrying CRISPR-Cas13d against SOD1 mRNA) in mice. I have gained specialized expertise concerning the plasmonic modulation of the blood-brain and blood-spinal cord barriers in mice to enhance delivery, influence behavior, and suppress SOD1 in ALS mice with AAV-CRISPR-Cas13d.In addition to my studies and experimentation, I worked as the safety manager and laboratory manager for Dr. Zhenpeng Qin's laboratory.

Instructed undergraduate students in the courses, Statics (physics) and Introduction to Engineered Biomaterials, providing mentoring with assignments as well as grading and providing feedback to students over exam questions. Held study sessions to help students prepare for each unit exam.

In addition to completing coursework in biomedical engineering, I have also conducted experiments in fabricating PEG microspheres and culturing mesenchymal stem cells in a 3D environment.I collaborated with members of Dr. Roland Kaunas's laboratory, which worked more directly in biomedical applications. They used PEG microspheres but for culturing mesenchymal stem cells for cancer treatment. I began work under Dr. Kaunas by Fall 2018 to be more involved with cell culture. Under Dr. Kaunas, I gained crucial skills in collaborating with other laboratory members, cell culture protocol, literature review, critical reasoning, and writing. I gained knowledge on the field of stem cell research and built foundational experiences for working in a laboratory.

I joined Dr. Daniel Alge’s research laboratory in the Summer of 2017, conducting experiments to synthesize electrosprayed polyethylene glycol (PEG) microspheres into a water-soluble collection solution, given that the purification and washing steps from oil prove cumbersome and reduce yield.

I was entrusted with filling prescriptions for controlled substances, narcotics, and other medicines while following Certified in Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) guidelines closely. I additionally shelved medications and performed regular inventory checks to ensure the pharmacy could appropriately serve the community. I provided quality customer service to those seeking to pick up and drop off their prescriptions.
