About Tiffany Taylor

Professor Laurence Hurst (FRS), Director of the Milner Centre, said: “We are delighted to welcome Tiffany to the Milner Centre. Her exciting work using microbes to study evolution in real time addresses a fundamental problem in evolution, notably how and why novelty arises. Her focus is on how cells evolve from non-motile to motile, which has immediate relevance for understanding the evolution of cancers and how they spread in the body. Along with her wonderful children’s books on evolution, Tiffany fits remarkably well into the Milner Centre’s ethos of doing fundamental and applied research, alongside public engagement.”Research in my lab is funded through the Royal Society and BBSRC.Website: https://tiffanybtaylor.wordpress.com/

My work broadly focuses on using experimental evolution to understand fundamental questions concerning ecological and evolutionary processes. Specifically, I use microbial experimental evolution in combination with molecular and bioinformatic techniques to determine the evolutionary drivers of gene regulatory networks (GRNs). In addition, I use experimental evolution with cancer cell populations to understand how we might quantify the role of evolution by natural selection of clinically important cancerous traits.
