About Tiffany Nielsen

Hi, I'm Tiffany!I started my language teaching career in 2013, discovering my passion while helping low verbal children on the Autism Spectrum develop their language skills. Since then, I've gone on to complete both the CELTA and DipTESOL qualifications so that I can develop my classroom skills and grow into more advanced roles, including teacher training and curriculum writing. I've always been averse to traditional 'teacher centered' lessons, information dumping and rote memorization. I make a point to incorporate elements of task-based learning, e-learning, gamification and authentic real-world experiences into my lessons. Some of the most memorable activities I've done with learners include making smoothies to practice measure words and ingredients, taking a business English student to a car dealership to practice his newly learned negotiation skills, and organizing a scavenger hunt around the local shops in which students had to speak to locals in order to get answers. Over the years, I've been fortunate enough to teach a wide variety of learners across Europe and Asia, including University teaching in Japan, working at a language immersion program for adults in the UK, and spending 7 years in Hong Kong teaching at public schools and private language centers. Throughout my teaching career, I've found that I really love mentoring other teachers and collaborating to improve classroom practice and confidence. I see myself as a lifelong learner and embrace any opportunity to learn from others or to share my own knowledge and ideas.I welcome any opportunity to discuss how my strengths and experiences can be used to build and sustain working relationships with those in my community.
