Skier Resort Scalable Distributed System
The goal of this project is to create a low-latency and highly scalable and available microservice that ensured high throughput. To achieve this goal, I used concepts of distributed systems rather than approaching this project with a monolithic architecture. Apache Tomcat was used to create a web application server, which was then deployed to several Amazon EC2 instances using AMI with a network load balancer. The servlets would process POST requests and return HTTP responses depending on valid or invalid input. Once the POST request has been validated, the servlet packages the request as a string and then publishes it to the RabbitMQ message queue. A Java program would consume messages and generate the payload to write to Redis. The RabbitMQ, consumer Java program and Redis were deployed to Amazon EC2 instances. To measure the throughput and latency of the microservice, a multithreaded client was programmed to send 200,000 POST. The project resulted in an average throughput of 2,171 requests per second.
