Taking over the reins of managing computer systems from Richard Scobie who has grown and nurtured them for the previous 11 years - there's a lot to pick up!!Sadly business was at an all-time low and I was made redundant from this post.

The UK office for Sectra AB whose headquarters are based in Sweden, the company's business is focused on providing support for medical image management and secure communications. The comanpy is still expanding, recently having branched out into supplying Queensland's mammographic needs and have in the order of 580 employees worldwide with annual turnover in the order of SEK850 million (NZ$165 million).My role here was IT Manager for the UK office whose head count started at about 20, expanding to about 50 during my tenure, each with their own notebook PC. Staff PCs ran mostly Windows XP with a few Vista installations. There were a variety of servers running either Linux or Windows Server versions, or HP-UX for training equipment. The office had a DSL connection with a firewall through which a VPN with the head office in Sweden was maintained, supporting replication of the Lotus Notes databases used for almost all operational systems.I was responsible for installation, maintenance and administration of all internal computer systems: Linux, Windows and HP-UX High Availability environments, Lotus Notes user administration, Business Continuity Planning, network planning & configuration, IT Policy determination, documentation & implementation including security aspects throughout the IT infrastructure.

I worked for the Technical Director, Steve Green at the satellite office at 2A Desborough Avenue in High Wycombe not far from where I lived.
