I am interested in the relationship between diabetes/non-communicable diseases and economic outcomes, and in solutions to reduce the economic burden of NCDs. I have a PhD in applied economics from the University of East Anglia, where I investigated the economics of diabetes in middle-income countries. I have published on the current state of research regarding the economic costs of type 2 diabetes and the costs and labour market impact of diabetes and am experienced in the application of econometric methods to identify causal relationships, in systematic reviews to evaluate the current state of evidence, cost-effectiveness analysis and grant writing. I have presented my work at international academic conferences as well as in front of policy makers. Current projects include the investigation of: the impact of diabetes on the labour market in Germany; the impact of diagnosed and undiagnosed diabetes on the labour market in Mexico; the relationship of diabetes with employment outcomes and health behaviours in China; the cost-effectiveness of conditional vs. unconditional cash transfers to improve health.
