Tilly is a Director and Chartered Ecologist at IES providing ecological services across southern England and Wales. Clients include multi-disciplinary consultancy, architects, planners and developers in residential, commercial and education sectors. She has particular experience in restoration ecology and habitat creation, and with a background in local government and Natural England alongside both small and multinational ecological consultancy roles, is well placed to provide robust ecological advice on all aspects of development. She holds dormouse and great crested newt survey licences and has held multiple badger development licences.

Part-time position. A fixed term contract to March 2011 which involved work at the highest level relating to the England Biodiversity Strategy, and which resulted in the implementation of landscape-scale projects designed to help meet the 2015 England BAP targets. This role was one of facilitation and technical support to ensure that the new England Biodiversity Strategy Framework document (Securing Biodiversity) was implemented fully to achieve the BAP targets. The role involved partnership and stakeholder working, and referred directly to the head of biodiversity in Natural England.

Responsibilities included client liaison; bidding for work and business development; line management and training of graduate staff; project management including budgeting and delivery to deadlines; working as part of a multi-disciplinary team on EIAs; field surveys including dormouse, bat, reptile, newt, extended Phase 1 habitat survey, hedgerow, badger, water vole & otter and all aspects of work required for a comprehensive EIA chapter; protected species license applications, notably badger, bat and dormouse; liaison with Local Planning Authorities, statutory and non-statutory consultees including Wildlife Trusts, the Environment Agency, Natural England, CCW and the Welsh Assembly Government; appointment and management of sub-contractors; control and management of invasive species; biodiversity enhancement advice. Sectors in which experience was gained include residential, commercial, pipeline, healthcare, government, defense and education.

Responsibilities included project management on a variety of different projects. Protected Species Surveys; Reptile Translocation; Extended Phase 1 Habitat surveys; Clerk of Works on habitat creation projects, notably creation of a water vole mitigation and biodiversity enhancement strategy; restoration work including the restoration of a pond; quotations for clients; report writing; GIS work; ecological site appraisals.

Responsible for the coordination, implementation and updating of the county's Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) using knowledge of protected species and habitat legislation, the ecological requirements of a number of species and knowledge of the planning system. Worked with the Regional Biodiversity Forum to help write aspects of the East Midlands Regional Planning Guidance document. Also responsible for giving ecological advice to applicants and Local Planning Authorities and working closely with nature conversation agencies. Department no longer exists.
