A transnational project platform and think tank in the areas of peace, justice and human security. The organisation applies a science-based, human-centred approach. We develop and implement projects together with civil society organisations from the countries concerned, and leading experts from around the globe.

ILSAF serves as a platform for research on Afghan law in a broad sense, provides free & open access to research results such as the Journal of Afghan Legal Studies, and carries out science-based projects.

Member of the Board of Editors of the Yearbook of Islamic & Middle Eastern Law (YIMEL).

Founder and Co-Editor (with Prof. Dr. Hashim Kamali and Ass. Prof. Lutforahman Saeed). The JALS is Afghanistan's first-ever peer-reviewed law journal with articles in Dari, Pashto and English (ISSN 2522-3070).

I built up a team of 28 analysts who carefully scrutinised thousands of cases of Afghans at risk. At the end of my term, almost 15,000 individuals - i.e. main persons reviewed by us and their family members - had been selected by the German government for admission to Germany. Since the end of my term I serve as Senior Consultant, focusing on particularly difficult cases.

'RSF Hub" is a small think tank established by Free University of Berlin and the German Federal Foreign Office. Tasks include strategic advice to the Foreign Office in the area of rule of law assistance and coordination between government entities, implementing organisations and academia.

Teaching seminars on law and development, comparative constitutional law, legal pluralism and related topics (together with Dr. Matthias Kötter).

Co-Editor (with Prof. Dr. Rüdiger Wolfrum and Dr. Frauke Lachenmann). The UNYB is the first scholarly periodical to focus on activities of the United Nations in the field of international law (founded in 1997, ISSN 1389-4633).

The Advisory Board to the Federal Government for Civilian Crisis Prevention and Peacebuilding brings together civil society and academic expertise. It accompanies with a critical eye the implementation of relevant government policies and advises on current affairs.

Founder (with co-directors and team); set up all structures and processes, including for project management, donor relations, administration, finance, personnel affairs, IT, library, field security, insurances (with co-director and team); as Managing Director, general responsibility under German law; as Head of Projects, responsible for activities in Asia (Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Pakistan), Latin America (Colombia), Eastern Europe (Ukraine).

Founder (with members of former local team); pro bono (unpaid) Executive Director; set up all structures and processes required under Afghan law (with team); responsibility for finance, personnel management, quality management and donor relations (with co-director); active participation in implementation of all projects (including field trips to 10+ different provinces of Afghanistan).
