Tilman Thürmer is the founder of Shanghai-based design agency COORDINATION ASIA. Born in Berlin in 1972, he studied architecture at the Berlin University of the Arts, co-founded COORDINATION BERLIN in 2004, and later relocated to China in 2009. His work includes strategies, content and designs for numerous museums in China such as the Shanghai Film Museum and Shanghai Museum of Glass. The success of the Shanghai Museum of Glass transformed the area into a museum park, leading to further projects such as the Kids Museum of Glass and Design Wing. In 2015, Tilman became its Design Director and Vice President. He has also worked on the Nanning Museum, Shanghai Auto Museum, and realized several award winning brand spaces for Nike Greater China.Tilman’s projects in China are recognised by numerous awards including Red Dot Design Awards, German Design Award, Iconic Award for Innovate Architecture, HKDA Award, and Design for Asia Award, as well COORDINATION ASIA is an award-winning agency for architecture and interior design, specialising in creating dynamic and bold environments for museums, exhibitions, retail spaces and hospitality services.Rooted somewhere between culture and commerce the Shanghai-based practice is known for their impactful content-driven interiors for museums and brands.
