Secondee of Sinopec into the Australian Pacific LNG (APLNG) coal seam gas to LNG project. Work within the Upstream Operator (Origin Energy) as mentor to a small team of geologists and reservoir engineers exchanging basic knowledge on coal and coal as a gas reservoir. Develop geological models that identify and constrain parameters that influence production. Apply models to lesser known areas for production prediction as well as targets for exploration and appraisal.

Teach second, third and fourth year courses relating to coal and hydrocarbons in the Australiasian region. Direct MSc and PhD students and act as co-supervisor. During the 2002-2003 academic year primary supervisor for three MSc students and two PhD students. Topics include trace element distribution in Greymouth coal seams, hydrological modelling of coalbed methane de-watering, hydrocarbon potential of the Kaitangata coalfield and geochemical modelling of acid generating systems, among other projects. During the Academic years 2005 – 2009 supervised 1 MSc and 1 PhD on coalbed methane studies in New Zealand coals.

Manage all aspects of Solid Energy’s coal seam gas projects including exploration, development and reporting to Board on all budgetary aspects. Act as operator to the JV in projects and manage staff in these projects of 4 full time people plus numerous contractors.

Formulate, implement, manage and supervise all Agency programs related to coal. Develop scientific programs which would help understand coal from a modern depositional perspective. Satisfy program goals with information, advice or products (publishable maps and reports) generated by office, laboratory or field investigations. Serve the State as an expert in coal geology and related coal activity. Write quarterly reports summarising the State's coal activities. Supervision of two employees.
