I realized successful projects were not the ones that had the brightest people. Projects were successful because of team work. This is true in sports. The best teams were not the ones that had the best stars but the ones that had the best chemistry. As Patrick Lencioni points out in "The Five Dysfunctions of a Team", team work is critical to the success of the organization. It is said, "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts." I sought not only to be a very good developer but also be a process champion that strove to encourage the best from the teams I was a part of.This began with my tenure at Marcam. The team in Atlanta did waterfall development right. They were practiced and methodical. In addition to my development tasks, I was encouraged to take on the role of championing the engineering process using ISO 9000 principles. At McKesson my first manager encouraged me to champion the CMMi Level 2 effort. There I realized the real challenge to process improvement is adoption. Process has no value unless the team members are sold on the process and see value in it. With volunteer efforts from roughly a dozen employees, I was able to bring the Horizon Meds Manager (HMM) certification in seven months where other product areas took twelve months to get the Level 2 rating.I got my Certified Scrum Master (CSM) certificate in 2012. In 2014, I was moved from the Horizon organization to the Paragon organization. There I began my scaled agile journey with several Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) certifications (SAFe Practitioner and SAFe Agilist). Since then I have scrum mastered 2 to 4 teams concurrently and have been the scrum master of over 21 teams in my career. Some teams were co-located and others distributed with team members in India. In 2016 I gained my SAFe® 4 Program Consultant (SPC4) certification. Today I have the SPC6 certification.Since McKesson, I have obtained over 8 Agile, Scrum and SAFe certifications ranging from ICP's Agile Coach Certification (ICP-ACC) to SAFe's Lean Portfolio Management (LPM). These certifications are important to help me to be the best for my teams. Continual learning is critical to the success of a scrum master and to that end I regularly read on topics that would benefit the people I work with such as "The Five Dysfunctions of a Team", "The Trust Edge", "Leadership Agility" and "The Neurodiverse Workplace". My goal is to be a servant leader that encourages team work and drive organization improvement using Scaled Agile. "What is better than an Agile team? A team of Agile teams."
