My primary motivators in life revolve around my family and my students. I love to teach, and to learn. As a Husband and Father, I am constantly surprised and how much I have yet to learn, and refreshed by my family's willingness to help me grow. As a high school teacher, I find that as I watch others grow in their knowledge of the language, the literature, leadership, and the thinking skills of simply "being awake" to the world around them, I am richly rewarded as understanding dawns in their eyes and minds. It makes all the effort worthwhile.I have had many jobs, careers, interests and activities over the past many years. I have also had my share of what many would call failures. From all of them, and there are many more than those listed in this profile, I have come to the realization that the opportunities for growth and learning are limitless. I have enjoyed everything from watching my work buddies at a machine shop play poker after hours (very late at night), to the greatest thrills of climbing the mountains of the American west, to the intense moments of seeing a student smile, with real light in his or her eyes, for the first time in what may have been years.I am reminded of some of the greatest words ever, and yes, they are from Shakespeare: "What a piece of work is a man! How noble in reason, how infinite in faculty! In form and moving how express and admirable! In action how like an angel, in apprehension how like a god!" - Hamlet, Act II, Scene ii.
