As Occupational Health and Safety Technician I provide general support to those responsible for the various areas of the ESS facility and provide advice on the implementation of local work environment rules. I have assisted the branch as a volunteer in the committee, where i have kept the Chiltern Branch website up to date with events (future and past). In order to contribute to greater Health & Safety awareness and create a networking facility for H&S professionals to share experience.During Covid crisis we have moved to virtual meetings where we have all learned a lot about video conferencing.

During the Covid lockdown and an international move I have completed my Diploma in Applied Health and Safety (NCRQ) with merit, achieved Grad IOSH status, passed a 168 hour course in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), been an active member of Chiltern IOSH branch and contributed to weekly webinars during the lockdown and continue to do so, started to learn Swedish and been on several targeted job workshops for internationals.

Working with clients to improve and implement Health & Safety (H&S) systems by contracting to be their competent person and then working with them to build a safe culture and systems.Then to audit those client systems from an external perspective using formal assessment criteria, and engaging people to raise awareness and understanding and improve those systems.Also conducting property risk assessments and detailed reports on large multi use buildings in central London for property management companies to ensure they are compliant with all aspects of managing buildings e.g. H&S, Fire Safety, Electrical safety, Working at Height, Legionella management, Asbestos, Contractor management etc, and using the site audits as an educational exercise for the operatives on site and to measure H&S improvement activity.

Working as a Health & Safety, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) Advisor with direct responsibilities for these areas and reporting to the Managing Director. During this time i worked closely with employees, subcontractors, clients and management to improve H&S awareness and risk control.These are the roles i fulfilled; - Trainer; Assessing workers knowledge of Health & Safety through new employee inductionsand organising appropriate training to continually improve competence and knowledge. Identifying relevant topics for toolbox talks , writing them and delivering to groups of 25 or more using multimedia and discussions to get engagement and an interactive learning process.- Contractor manager; Vetting new subcontractors and other vendors through a formal process and keeping updated records and reviews, along with spot subcontractor site inspections. - H&S Policy reviewer; Reviewing the H&S manual with a bottom up approach (communicating with members of staff directly affected by each section of the manual) and re-writing. Introduced monthly management Safety meetings which improved H&S communication.- Risk assessment author; Reviewing high risk areas and organising project teams to create a better solution, then trialling and rolling out safer working practices through a structured change process in order to embed the new practices in everyday working.- ISO9001:2015 Quality manager; Maintaining the existing ISO9001:2008 (SSAIB) Quality System (including QMRM, CIAP and reviews), and subsequently project managing (internal and external stakeholders) a successful transition to the ISO9001:2015 NSI Gold QMS.- Accident investigator; Conducting accident investigations and highlighting areas of improvement to the parties concerned and then implementing improved working practices or knowledge to learn from the accidents in a positive way, and improved near miss reporting.
