Throughout my career, I have been extremely lucky to work with and for some brilliant people. I started my career as an actuary consulting on pension plans in the UK for Mercer. The grounding I received in understanding the challenges of managing long-term liabilities has been invaluable to me in every subsequent role. After a few years I was offered the chance to apply for a two-year placement in California, a dream move for an aspiring surfer, and was a little surprised when it somehow turned into a move to Boston in the middle of January. However, I was fortunate to land in a fantastic group of people building Mercer's OCIO business. This was my first foray into the investment world and gave me the chance to marry the liability knowledge I had developed with learning the asset management business hands on in an entrepreneurial environment. The passion I developed through the OCIO group for helping institutional investors meet their long-term investment goals led to a subsequent role at Income Research and Management. Here I led the development of LDI solutions for six years, working closely with the portfolio management and sales teams.Today in my role at SLC Management, I lead a team of 20 actuaries and other investment professionals to develop asset allocation solutions and insights for institutional clients. We manage investment grade and below investment grade, public and private fixed income as well as real assets through our partner companies. I am passionate about helping the clients we partner with to have better outcomes as well as helping the people we work with to develop and grow in their roles. When not crunching numbers and talking investments I like to be in the water, preferably with a surfboard...and one day I hope to finally make it to California!
