As owner of Cork Grassland Services, I oversee all aspects of the business with the help of my dedicated team. We provide an on farm grass measuring service for Irish dairy farmers. Our clients farms are walked thoroughly 30-40 times a year as we measure how much grass (kgs DM/ha) is in each paddock. All results are uploaded onto PastureBase Ireland where the farmer can then see his grass wedge. Farmers are then provided with advice based on this wedge, such as recommended rotation lengths, how much meal should be fed, when to cut surplus silage. We also do Spring/Autumn rotation plans and feed budgets. To compliment our grassland consultancy services, we also carry out farm mapping, soil sampling and devise fertiliser plans.

I was responsible for the administration, workflow, quality control and maintenance of the grassland laboratory supporting this research programme, and for training post-graduate students and post-doctoral researchers using the Grassland Laboratory.
