Implementation and monitoring of management programs in relation to the sustainable use of wildlife and pest animal management across the Northern Territory.Key Duties and Responsibilities:1. Implement existing management programs for sustainable use of wildlife in the Northern Territory, and contribute to the development of new programs.2. Contribute to monitoring and management of pest animals in the Northern Territory.3. Maintain strategic partnerships with a range of stakeholders involved in the sustainable use of wildlife and pest animal management, including other government agencies, indigenous organisations, pastoral landholders and non-government organisations.4. Work with indigenous landholders and organisations to facilitate Indigenous enterprises based on the sustainable use of wildlife and pest animal management.5. Produce reports and other documentation in relation to the sustainable use of wildlife and pest animal management.6. Manage and conduct compliance monitoring and enforcement of the regulatory framework for sustainable use of wildlife and pest animal management.7. Contribute to policy development and legislative reform relating to the sustainable use of wildlife and pest animal management and associated regulatory systems.

I currently lead the Land and Forest Sciences Theme (LFS) within the ABARE-BRS responsible for reporting on national forest, land use, land management and vegetation data. The Program provides advice to decision makers to facilitate industry development and encourage ecologically sustainable land, forest and vegetation management. LFS has the lead coordinating role in the Australian Collaborative Land Use Mapping Program (ACLUMP), Executive Steering Committee for Australian Vegetation Information (ESCAVI) working groups and the National Forest Inventory. The program produces a wide range of information products and publications including Australia’s State of Forests Report.

Provide leadership and manage effectively the Department’s biodiversity research efforts including the management of the Arthur Rylah Institute for Environmental Research (Approximately 85 staff + contractors; Annual budget > $8 million pa with the majority (>66%) of funds been generated from sources external to BNR Division)- Establishing a strategic framework for the Department’s biodiversity research efforts - Ensuring the Department’s biodiversity research effort is well targeted - Influencing the direction of biodiversity research within Victoria - Establishing a clear role for the Arthur Rylah Institute.- Securing funding sources for key research projects and establishing joint research approaches with universities and relevant agencies.- Working cooperatively with all research areas within DSE (and DPI) to achieve corporate outcomes.
