Yep, a bit of everything. Since 2014 I have been freelancing my services out. It has given me an opportunity to use all the skills I have gathered over a career. So sometimes I Conceptualise ideas, sometimes I Write, sometimes I Direct, sometimes I Shoot, sometimes I Edit. Sometimes I do all of the above. Love what I am doing right now. :-) I am also part of The Idea Donkey creative collective which is as the name says is a creative collective that provides video content solutions for companies. I am responsible for taking a brief from Client, and together with a team, brainstorm an effective piece if communication that falls within the client budget. I will collaboratively work on the scripting and shot listing. I am intimately involved in putting the whole production together in terms of deciding the treatment, deciding creatively what camera, jib, dolley etc to use. As the Director on set, and will direct both the look in terms of lighting and engaging with actors and presenters to get the best possible performance. Again, I do believe it to be a collaborative effort and welcome input from both DOP and artist.In edit, depending on the job, I might either edit it myself or brief one of our editors on the job. Although I will supervise the edit, I do allow editors their own creative freedom. This is also true in terms of graphics and audio final mix. Even though I have moved onto directing, I still enjoy the thrill of camera work and running an Edit Suite

Editing mainly on the Softimage DS system (later Avid DS), it was my job to edit the most important and biggest jobs in a creative and effective way. It was important to meet strict deadlines often in a stressed environment. Besides the edit function of the job, I was also responsible for all the technical aspects of the company, making sure all the edit suites and machines were maintained and all broadcast technical specifications adhered to. I had 2 junior editors and a duplications person under me, who I had to direct and oversee their work and liaise with the director, graphics and audio departments to make sure there was a seamless integration between the systems and departments.

I was tasked with running the Avid Media Composer. It was my job to offline all content in a production. Offline editing taught me the valuable skills of storytelling and managing an edit process. I would need to liaise with the Director and Online Editor to achieve both an effective piece of communication and one that technically was sound.
