March 2021 - June 2022: Project lead on new ML-based imaging product.January 2018 - February 2021: Head of Applied Science and Machine Learning, Adobe Sensei.I led a team of engineers and researchers that collaborated with product and pure-research teams to build ML features into a wide variety of products across Adobe. Example projects included advanced similarity search for Stock, SmartFind semantic search for Acrobat, Neural Filters for Photoshop, Video AutoCrop for Premiere Pro, and Video Auto-tagging for Adobe Enterprise Manager (AEM).

I led the Relevance team at LinkedIn that was responsible for quality and data for most of the free member-facing features: Search, the homepage Feed, and Careers (job search and job recommendation). This is a team of about 60 engineers and applied scientists working with data, algorithms, and machine-learned models to make the experience of both the LinkedIn website and the mobile apps as engaging and useful as possible for members.

I led a team of ~50 data scientists and engineers dedicated to improving eBay's search engine.

Jybe: I was one of the two co-founders of this six-person startup, which produced a mobile app for recommendation and social discovery. Jybe was acquired by Yahoo! in March 2013.Yahoo!: After the acquisition I was Science Lead for Personalization Ranking at Yahoo!, working on personalization techniques for the Yahoo! home page.

Powerset: I led a team of developers and linguists, measuring and improving the relevance of a new natural-language web search engine. Powerset was acquired by Microsoft in July 2008.Microsoft: I led an engineering team for Microsoft's Bing search engine at the San Francisco (Powerset) offices. My team was responsible for all back-end development on Bing captions (aka snippets, or summaries) - the title/URL/excerpt that displays for every result on the search page.

Software Engineer at Inktomi (April 2002 - March 2003), which was acquired to become the back end of Yahoo! Web Search. Continued with web-crawling engineering at Yahoo! through 2003.Then I managed the Content Classification group within Yahoo! Web Search (Jan 2004 - December 2006), supervising 7 engineers. Overall responsibility for the algorithmic anti-webspam program.

Co-author (with Joyce Park) of three editions of a reference and tutorial on the PHP web programming language: PHP 4 Bible (Hungry Minds Press, August 2000), PHP Bible, 2nd Ed (Wiley, September 2002), PHP5 and MySQL Bible.
