JBA is a multidisciplinary town planning firm specialising in statuary planning and New South Wales planning law. My role is to help develop the urban design capability of the company and to compliment the strategic and statutory planning teams. AAUD is a small Sydney based urban design firm. It is with AAUD that I developed my skills as an urban designer. Being a part of a small company gave me an in depth understanding of every part of the design process, from the initiation meeting to the final product. I worked closely with the directors on a day to day basis learning by doing. As part of a small team I learned how to react quickly to challenging and changing circumstances, work within multidisciplinary teams, taking the lead where necessary, and to be able to explain and defend design decisions to peers, clients and critics.
