I work in the Highways Design section, Local services. I have an extensive knowledge of highways works gained through more than 24 years in contracting and consulting. I was first employed after college by Balfour Beatty Northern as a Trainee Site Engineer in 1987. I worked on the Newcastle Western Bypass , Stamfordham Road interchange until 1990. I was then transferred to Balfour Beatty Railway engineering in late 1990.I joined Northumberland County Council's Highways Department in October 1991 from Balfour Beatty Railway Engineering after overseeing the construction of the Newcastle Airport Metro extension. I have subsequently gained a wide experience of highway design and construction, on both maintenance and improvement projects. I has supervised on major Trunk Road projects such as Marshall Meadows dualling, A1 Hitchcroft-Cawledge Park dualling, A19 Seaton Burn to Moor Farm and also regeneration schemes such as Blyth Quayside.I also supervised the construction of the duplication of the A189 over the River Wansbeck which included the construction of a six span river and five span railway bridge.I was seconded to Castle Morpeth Borough Council in 2001 to oversee their Highways section and manage the agency agreement between CMBC and Northumberland County Council and returned in 2002.On my return,I completed the design work for the A696 MoD convoys project and was subsequently charged with it’s supervision over the next 2 yearsI have been working on the LTP £3m non principal roads programme for the past eight years. I am presently the Design Engineer for the Northern area Principal and Non principal roads programme , which at present has a value of approx. £2.5m
