I have been working in the field of engineering design automation for more than 28 years, attempting to free engineers from repetitive work so they can focus on the more creating aspect of engineering design. At the same time, I wanted to make their employers more competitive and more efficient.In 2005, in frustration at what we saw as the inadequacy of currently available tools, my business partner Chris and I set out to improve the state of the art for ourselves and our customers. We had several goals in mind:...make it easier. We wanted to create a product that would be useable by every design engineer, not just the ones with serious computer programming skills....make it more powerful. Available systems then (and still) automated only design detailing. We wanted to build a tool that could automate and optimize the whole of design, including design exploration....make it affordable. We wanted a product that could be on every engineer's desk.The result was Genus Designer. Genus Designer is a productivity tool targeted at manufacturing companies that do repetitive engineering. It is a high-level application specific language and framework for capturing, encoding and, in the context of a specific product specification, executing engineering design rules to produce custom product design descriptions in the form of CAD models, drawings, BOMs and reports.Now in its 12th major release, it has come a long way toward achieving those goals. As we have more and more project successes and as computers get more and more powerful, new ideas and opportunities for improvement just keep on opening up.We're now working hard to get the word out and help manufacturing companies achieve their goals.Specialties: Engineering Design Automation, Knowledge-based Engineering (KBE), Generative Design, Design Languages and Computer Programming.
