I have recently completed my role as President and CEO of Rincon Ltd. The roll required significant change management as we grappled with a conglomerate that had lost its way - it needed rapid sale of a lead recycling business in Australia to reduce debt, closing corporate office in Toronto and re-establishing a much smaller office and team in Melbourne.The remaining assets were an operating bicarbonate of soda mine in Colorado, USA and a lithium development asset in Salta, ArgentinaThe bicarbonate of soda mine had underinvested in well fields and needed love and care from an exceptional management team in country after excess management structures and "sub corporate offices" were removed - production went from 180,000 tons per year to over 250,000 tons in 2021. The asset was successfully sold to JM Huber on 31 December 2021The lithium asset needed significant work as we searched for an economic process to treat the large quantities of brine. This process was piloted in 2021 and a PFS prepared. After an extensive global sales process by Credit Suisse, we sold the asset to Rio Tinto for US$825 million in March 2022I am chairman at Hazer Group, a fast growing disruptive technology company that through the Hazer process converts gas (with the addition of iron ore as a catalyst) into hydrogen and graphite. I'm also a director and strategic advisor to Pantera Minerals Limited, an oil field brine asset in Arkansas in the US, with our ground next door to Exxon Mobil.I was previously Chairman of Angel Seafood and Kopore Limited and Audit Committee chair and non-executive director of Costa Group, a large fruit and vegetable supplierOn 30 June 2017 I retired from the PwC Australia partnership. I had been a partner for 21 and a half years and working at PwC for over 29 years. I was global mining leader for six years until June 2013 and during that time led PwC's mining strategy. I worked with teams on all the largest global mining companies, ensuring PwC's services were at the cutting edge.In 2002 I believed China was going to have a dramatic effect on the future of the mining world. I established a team within PwC to regularly visit China and assist Chinese companies invest offshore into the Australian and global mining industry. Over the years this focus intensified and has turned into a significant business.
