I was responsible for communicating with the media and other key external stakeholders, managing the reputation of the council at all times, particularly in crisis situations. I was called upon to provide advice and guidance on media and communication matters to elected members, the chief executive, and senior management teams, as well as working in partnership with a range of stakeholders. I managed one media officer. While in post, our team distributed 51 press releases, achieved more than 500 pieces of local media coverage, and dealt with 180 direct media enquiries.

Innovate UK is the UK's innovation agency. Had media control of specific projects and campaigns, I managed accurate and positive media coverage and stakeholder awareness of Innovate UK. I also carried out government and parliamentary relation work.

Olympus House, Patchway, Bristol

Liaising with Brandon Trust's numerous internal and external stakeholders, and working in line with the charity's corporate identity, I coordinated and managed the organisation's media presence on TV, radio and in print and played a key role in raising its profile on social media. I coordinated an external newsletter and provided direct PR support to our fundraising and recruitment teams on projects and campaigns.

Bristol

After being head-hunted, I was initially employed as a writer covering a variety of sports in the Bristol region, both for newspaper print and the web. I was quickly promoted to become a sub-editor designing pages from scratch for the newspaper using Quark and Tera computer design programmes. I was working to tight deadlines, unsupervised and showing flexibility with shift work including weekends. I was responsible for the design, layout and proofreading of sports pages for a daily newspaper. Further promotion saw me become group sports production editor and this role involved more design responsibility. I was also heavily involved in managing, uploading, and writing for the company website. I regularly deputised for the sports editor and was responsible for the smooth running of the sportsdesk.

South Gloucestershire

I ran a district office and was responsible for generating newsworthy stories and features from a variety of sources and contacts covering a broad range of issues and industries from court reporting to direct interviews with the local MP. I was the first point of call for the public coming to the office and while building up a strong list of contacts, I developed strong writing and communication skills. I progressed from an office junior to the senior role in under four years.
