After graduating from University in 2010 I realised my ambition to pursue a career in teaching and during the spring and summer terms of 2011 I worked as a volunteer teaching assistant in adult education (Hull City Council), supporting adults with learning difficulties and disabilities undertaking a ‘Skills for life’ course in Literacy and Numeracy; in a secondary school supporting young people in a KS3 ‘Nurture Group’ with learning and behavioural difficulties, and in a primary school offering general classroom support in KS1 and KS2. I thoroughly enjoyed my time all three of these very different avenues of supporting in learning, as it has been a valuable experience, in particular the primary school that confirmed my ambition to pursue a career in teaching. Since September 2011 I was successful in seeking employment at a primary school as a Level 1 Teaching Assistant, primarily supporting a year 4 class, but when required, I cover colleagues supporting specific children with special educational needs in KS1 and KS2.
