With this experience Tim is uniquely placed to offer the benefits of both academic theory and industry practice to his teaching, research and consulting. As the senior hospitality academic at Western Sydney University, Tim has used his passion for guest experience to enrich the learning of students. In developing the introductory unit for the Hospitality major, ‘The Business of Hospitality’ , Tim collaborated with industry partners to bring a balance of theory and practical perspectives which resulted in the unit receiving the highest student satisfaction rating within the School of Business in 2018. The practical aspect of learning is very important to Tim and this can be further seen through his involvement with the capstone hospitality project. This unit sees Tim has facilitated students work with industry partners on live industry projects and since 2011 he has organised in excess of 75 projects for students with a variety of partners. Innovation is also a key component to Tim’s teaching and this culminated in 2014 with the implementation of the first web enabled iPad examination in Australia.Tim also facilitates short term student mobility programs which see students travel overseas for an intensive period to see their industry in an international context and experience new cultures. Since 2010 Tim has facilitated more than 100 Hospitality and Sport students participate in a two week mobility program and internships to Vietnam.
