I am a full-stack developer working with a small team of other developers to build open data search tools, APIs, and apps for the Dept. of Commerce. Most of my work has involved contributing to the ITA’s open data search API platform (api.trade.gov, developer.trade.gov). This is a Rails app on top of Elasticsearch, hosted on AWS and managed via Opsworks. My work on this project has involved programmatically building search endpoints as well as developing a Taxonomy Parser gem, a Terms Mapper microservice to assist in standardizing endpoint data, and an AWS S3 browser Rails engine. I also use Logstash and Kibana to assist in managing endpoint and user log statistics and have written a Logstash filter plugin. More recently I have been working with React.js and Redux to build client side report-building apps to better expose the content in our APIs to end users. I have also recently utilized AWS’s Lambda platform extensively to transform data such as Excel spreadsheets to clean and consistent CSV or JSON (generally using Python), to be consumed automatically by our API publishing platform (api.trade.gov).
