I have always been a change agent for large companies. Internal advocate for consulting firms assisting ARCO or Colonial Pipeline. What I was slow to understand is that once the consultants leave, Change agents are left with a lot of bosses that felt threatened by the change. That was when I left Internal Change and began a consulting company.I have very much enjoyed and continue to enjoy helping companies (Chesapeake, Crosstex, Petrobras, PetroChina and others) innovate, accelerate projects and financial performance. I once told the Director of Quality at Petrobras "I tell you what you need to know, not what you want to hear", this was at a meeting discussing the cost of transmix and product contamination. As we discussed the opportunities, he asked the room of managers "why hasn't anyone told me these things". Afterwards he thanked me for challenging the organization - this lead to a two year project which significantly improve product quality and virtually eliminated contaminations - through the development and transition of best practices and training of the organization. They sustained and adopted the change.
