Responsible for engineering, design and package management on both brownfield and greenfield oil and gas projects. Leading the Rotating Equipment Section of the Reliability Services Department. I have four technical personnel reporting directly to me. Key duties include:• Managing the machinery condition monitoring program including vibration and oil analysis;• Overseeing and ensuring the quality control of machinery repairs and rebuilds;• Troubleshooting day-to-day machinery reliability and performance issues; • Investigating machinery failures;• Evaluating, recommending and engineering machinery improvements and upgrades;• Providing input into repair plans, spares and predictive/preventive maintenance strategies;• Providing expertise and input on plant-wide reliability initiatives.

Employed within the Engineering and Projects Department focussing on mechanical engineering for Capital Projects. The position involved two technical personnel reporting directly to me. Key duties included:• Providing mechanical engineering services and technical leadership for the mechanical discipline of capital projects;• Performing mechanical engineering owner reviews including plot plans, P&IDs, engineering data sheets, HAZOPs & PHAs and participate in multi-discipline 30%, 60% and 90% model reviews;• Participating in interdisciplinary reviews to ensure that the mechanical design of supplied equipment is in compliance with technical standards, specifications and industry codes;• Liaising with suppliers and equipment manufacturers to ensure the equipment is manufactured and tested in accordance with technical requirements; • Developing and maintaining engineering plant standards for mechanical installations and design/AutoCAD.

Employed within the Safety, Health, Environment and Risk Management Department focussing on prevention of loss from accidental releases of hazardous materials. Key duties and initiatives include:• Leading the development and implementation of improvements to North Atlantic’s Process Safety Management (PSM) Program;• Auditing North Atlantic PSM elements for compliance and effectiveness;• Advising refinery operations and engineering personnel on process safety and loss prevention issues;• Providing loss prevention expertise in support of capital projects and modifications;• Liasing with insurers and regulators on loss prevention issues and recommendations;• Leading investigations into high potential process safety incidents as needed.In addition to Process Safety Management duties, I also served as Health and Safety Supervisor during planned maintenance shutdowns. This position involves supervising a team of up to six safety professionals and helping to ensure the safety and health of workers involved in construction and maintenance activities.

Employed within the Safety, Health, Environment, & Risk Management Department as the Health and Safety Superintendent. This position involves managing the activities of and leading the Health and Safety Section. The Health and Safety Section is the loss control and risk management resource for the refinery, responsible for consulting on the application of loss control/risk management in the day-to-day activities of the refinery, as well as providing and maintaining resources for emergency response, and developing programs for continuous improvement in loss control. Specific duties include:• Developing policies and procedures in support of the Risk Management Program and co-ordinating program implementation;• Performing and participating in hazard reviews of process units using techniques such as the Dow Fire and Explosion Indices, and the Screening Level Risk Assessment;• Researching best practice and advising on process safety risk management and occupational safety issues. This includes issues such as facility siting, simultaneous operations and fire protection;• Liasing with regulators and insurers.

Employed with the Engineering and Projects Group as a Project Engineer. This involved working as project manager on multidisciplinary capital projects, responsible for all engineering, design, construction and commissioning activities within all disciplines involved. This included:• Co-ordinating the development of feasible process packages, participating in Process Hazards Analysis Studies, and developing and estimating project scopes for budget purposes;• Maintaining the project schedule and ensuring that work is performed in a safe and proactive manner;• Managing a team of designers, draftspersons and discipline engineers and approving all design work;• Monitoring the progress and accuracy of the construction as required and approving all field modifications to the original design;• Controlling costs and managing construction. The project engineer must bring the project in on schedule and under budget;• Commissioning and turnover of the completed project to the Production Department.In addition to my project engineering duties, I have acted as a co-ordinator and field engineer on numerous turnarounds spanning a wide range of activities including piping and valves, heater rebuilds, reactor internals changeout, reactor shell and head repairs, and exchanger maintenance and replacement.
