I began my career as a surveyor in the British Army - a big part of that job was the design and construction of roads, bridges and temporary structures. This gave me great exposure to the way things are built and managed on the ground, in a variety of environments. Leaving the forces in 2012 was a huge professional shift in my life. I went from a well-respected professional in an established organization, to someone at the bottom of the ladder with no connections 'in the real world'. I continued to build a new career and transitioned through the world of building surveying towards design and design management. The subject of building information modelling (BIM) really drove my interest in these areas - always thinking "there's got to be a better way" right? My career took an interesting turn and I found myself working at Global Survey in New Zealand - Global Survey are the Leica Geosystems dealers for the New Zealand region. My role began with the focus of developing the reality capture and digital construction (particularly vertical construction) markets nationwide. I never thought I'd work in sales, but I found working with a wide range of clients delivering better solutions really engaging and really enjoyed the dynamic. After a couple years growing this market, I took on the national management of the construction sales team while continuing the sales and support role for reality capture in the North Island.Returning to the UK to be closer to family I began work at Portakabin - the market leader in modular construction and a household name. I took over the York Hire centre and have grown the amount of business that the hire centre carries out by 2-3 times to date.
