In August 2010, the Oxford Geoengineering Institute was 'spun-in' to the University of Oxford to become the Oxford Geoengineering Programme (OGP) - part of the Oxford Martin School. The objective of the OGP is to assess the potential of all proposed geoengineering techniques to counteract climate change, to determine, which, if any, of them could be.

Oxford Geoengineering Institute was set up to facilitate the attainment and distribution of knowledge about geoengineering to scientists, governments, NGOs, corporate entities and the wider public.
