Instructor / Assessor Mechanical Engineering

Prior to my current role of Industrial Training Manager, I began working at Warwickshire College Rugby Centre as a Lecturer / Instructor in the Engineering department. This position involved teaching to classes and taking practical sessions within the workshop and classrooms. This has enabled me to be confident giving presentations to large groups including management and clients either at College or at company premises. During the setup of the new Rugby Centre in 2010, I was also involved in the planning of the workshop area for the new build including purchasing of equipment to a budget. This has proved successful increasing apprentices at the Rugby Centre by a significant amount in its first year!

Research Technician

United Kingdom

Supporting research projects - manufacturing component's using mechanical engineering skills. At Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) my main job role was the support of academics in teaching or research. I was involved with several on-going projects for various companies and using my planning, manual and CNC Machining experience provided engineering support for them. This also involved teaching and demonstrating engineering principles to Graduates within the University. This job role stretched my engineering planning / manufacturing ability to the limit as deadlines had to be met to maintain progress on projects to ensure continued funding. PRODUCTION ENGINEERThis was an important role within a key department of the Manufacturing business unit. This is where I gained experience in the setting up of material / production planning schedules, tooling budgets, estimates and cost control. A keen sense of forward planning, teamwork and the ability to make on the spot decisions was essential. It was my responsibility to manage core components within the Light and Heavy machine shop from initial planning to final completion in the most cost efficient and effective manner. Deadlines had to be met via regular manufacturing reviews and problems solved to ensure on time delivery. This process involved the purchasing of correct materials and tooling and giving instruction to operators, inspectors and other engineers. During this time I became proficient in the following software packages Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint / Autosketch / AutoCAD 2000. I was required to leave Alstom Power UK due to staff redundancy on a massive scale.CNC RESOURCE ENGINEER May 1995 – Jan 2000 During this time I worked on various key resources in a dedicated cellular manufacturing department as a CNC Machinist where skill and precision was focused at all times. I had responsibility to liaise with Production Engineers / Programmers and other Craftsmen to ensure continued production and manufacture to a high standard. Key machines that I operated and programmed were a Solon 3 HV/DVT machining centre and an Asquith Starcut Gantry machining centre which had Siemens 840C and 840D programming language respectively. CRAFTSMAN June 1990 – May 1995 On completion of my apprenticeship I was employed as a Craftsman within the Light Machine Shop working on several manual machines (Lathes/ Vertical – Horizontal Milling Machines / Drilling / Grinding / Boring) This gave me a firm grounding of engineering manufacture which enabled me to progress onto CNC Machining on a Wadkin Machining Centre with a Phillips 5000 series control.
