YumChina operates the KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell brands in China.Reporting to the Treasurer, my main roles were:- I oversaw the insurance operation of the company when it was spun off to become a US listed company.- During my responsibility for the company’s insurance program, we achieved both cost efficiency and service improvements.- We worked with colleagues and external providers to support risk management and mitigation.- Develop and manage good relationships with professional providers, such as insurance brokers and insurers.

As COO, I was responsible for Administration, IT, Placement, Processing and Claims, and for setting up an Operations Centre. I therefore supported efficiency through improved processing (including implementation of a standard processing system) and centralized services. The claims team additionally provided significant new revenue to the company. As Managing Director of the Risk Management department, I developed and led a team of engineers, actuaries and consultants, leveraging local and regional expertise to create a strong basis for future growth in this area. In that role, I am proud to have identified the opportunity for captive insurance development in China and encouraged the establishment of a team that has now become the leader in this area in China.

Managed the International broker team's services, liaised with Asian offices and carried out marketing in Scandinavia.

Marketing and sales activities in Germany and Scandinavia, at a senior management level for a Swiss Re / Munich Re joint venture developing an innovative internet reinsurance platform. Training activities conducted, including in Asia.

Responsible for a premium portfolio of US$100m with upper quartile results, written by a global underwriting team of 25 underwriters. Implemented a highly successful global underwriting information and communication tool that ensured consistent underwriting standards, based on a system of peer review. Established a specialist Risk Solutions underwriting team.

Set up a new Energy Reinsurance Division and built a profitable portfolio of onshore and offshore treaty and facultative business with US$25m income.

Worked first in Sedgwick Marine. From 1981-1984 opened and managed the first broker liaison office in Beijing, developing relationships with the Chinese insurance market. From 1984-1989 worked for E.W. Payne in London on marine and energy reinsurance broking including Account Executive responsibilities for the marine reinsurance of E.W. Payne’s largest client in Japan.
