Currently an Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship at Northern Illinois University. Tim's career started as a management consultant in applied analytics and corporate strategy, at the Center for Innovation Management Studies (CIMS) in Raleigh, NC, where he developed and applied natural language processing models for Fortune 500 companies and startups. After experiencing, first-hand, the issues of technology adoption in large firms, Tim pivoted into academia to better understand new venture creation and organizational behavior. Today, Tim focuses primarily on developing original research around the topics of resourcefulness and the efficient (i.e., frugal) use of resources in entrepreneurial ventures. Overall, his work looks to help increase the survival rates of startups and corporate spinoffs. Additional research interests include, (a) developing a clinical model for entrepreneurship teaching, research, and practice, (b) process modeling, longitudinal analysis, and experimental design, (c) self-regulation and regulatory focus in entrepreneurship, and (d) the role of mental health in association with venture outcomes (e.g., venture survival and performance).*Always open to talk with current and future students, as well as entrepreneurs, practitioners, or firms who are trying to build successful new ventures.
