As a project engineer starting in March 2011 on the Sapphire to Woolgoolga project, my role has been across many disciplines including drainage (both transverse and longitudinal), earthworks (both bulk and detailed) and rigid pavements. Within these disciplines, I have been responsible for managing projects, cost control and quality control on site and managing safety and the environment for the project. My duties include:• Managing planning and programming activities to ensure the most efficient use of resources and the completion of the project in accordance with contract and legislative requirements• Identifying design issues and managing the design and approval of all temporary works• Develop work method statements, work procedures, ITP/ ITC for construction and ensure the implementation and monitoring of JSEAs and Work Procedures• Performing environmental and daily hazard inspections• Ensuring supervisory personnel have the resources required to complete works• Assisting in the production of forecasts and reports• Negotiating and implementing contracts with subcontractors and suppliers to meet budgets, quality, safety, and time requirements• Monitoring labour costs and Identifying potential cost savings whilst ensuring the accuracy of daily costing• Leading and developing site and graduate engineers
