Carers Trust is the national carers charity which was formed by the merger of The Princess Royal Trust for Carers and Crossroads Care in April 2012.Carers Trust works to improve support, services and recognition for anyone living with the challenges of caring, unpaid, for a family member or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or addiction problems. With our Network Partners, we aim to ensure that information, advice and practical support are available to all carers across the UK.Our Network Partners benefit from the provision of grants, advice documents and reports to improve carers' services. Carers Gloucestershire is an independent charity working for a better life for carers, one where they don't have to face the challenges of caring alone. In each of the last 4 years around 3,000 people have turned to us for help for the very first time. A carer is someone who, without payment, provides regular help and support to a partner, child, relative, friend or neighbour, who could not manage without their help. This could be due to frailty, physical or mental illness, substance misuse or disability.Our vision is of a community where Carers are fully recognised, valued and supported in their caring role. We believe that Carers should be able to: ...enjoy mental and physical wellbeing and be treated with dignity. ...undertake their caring responsibilities without financial hardship. ...be recognised, respected and involved as an equal partner in care. ...have a fulfilling life, engaging within their communities as they wish. ...have a significant influence on policy making and planning for services that have an impact on carers. Carers Gloucestershire has been running since 1992, has a staff of 52, around 100 accredited volunteers and a turnover of about £2.2M pa.Carers Gloucestershire is an active Network Partner of Carers Trust, the national carers charity formed by the merger of The Princess Royal Trust for Carers and Crossroads Care in April 2012. Carers Gloucestershire has achieved Carers Trust 'Centre of Excellence' status for quality and carer outcomes.

The Princess Royal Trust for Carers was created on the initiative of Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal in 1991. At that time people caring at home for family members or friends with disabilities and chronic illnesses were scarcely recognised as requiring support.For nearly 20 years, The Princess Royal Trust for Carers has been fighting to provide carers with the support they so desperately need. The Trust understands that few of us plan to become carers, so when a caring role starts, every carer needs an expert to guide them through the maze of services, rules and entitlements. For a carer, this can make the difference between keeping and losing their job, or between staying healthy and collapsing under the stress.At the heart of The Trust is a unique network of 144 independently-managed Carers' Centres, 89 young carers' services and interactive websites (www.carers.org and www.youngcarers.net) which deliver around the clock support to over 424,000 carers and approximately 25,000 young carers.
