CurrentStarted my career in Openreach as a Network Engineer in the Service Delivery department. Moved over to become a Fibre Jointer for the Fibre & Network Delivery Department after two years in Service Delivery. Two years after that, I moved to a Plant Protection Officer role within Network Assurance.Network Engineer - Service Delivery:• Installation, testing and maintenance of PSTN, ADSL & VDSL phone and broadband lines at commercial and residential premises.• Internal & external cabling in compliance with fire safety legislation.• Cabling, underground and at height.• Working both at height and in confined spaces.Fibre Jointer – Fibre & Network Delivery:• Passive optical network (PON) installation and commissioning from exchange to end user premises.• Deliver fibre networks to both new housing projects and retrofitting existing areas by cabling and splicing aggregation nodes, splitters and connectorised block terminals.• Working on active building sites where housing estates are being erected.• Installation and commissioning of fibreoptic broadband at commercial and residential premises.• Fault finding using an optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR)• Identifying and precisely locating blockages in the underground network, using hand rodding techniques and detailed network schematics.Plant Protection Officer – Network Assurance• Have an advanced comprehension of the network and its components. • Survey, make safe and arrange rectification of safety defects within the network that could be hazardous to engineers or members of the public.• Provide duct repair services to contractors or engineers that may have damaged the network.• Track and locate underground cables and network plant using detection equipment and detailed technical drawings. • Investigate customer complaints and legal issues regarding the Openreach network and provide detailed reports to Openreach stakeholders.
