This role was deputy to the Head of UK Communications, directing communications strategy, issues management and planning for HSBC’s UK banking operations across internal communications, media relations and public policy. I also directed the operations of the department, including budget and performance management. Key achievements in this role included:• Developing a new operating model for the UK Bank internal communications team that redefined the purpose of internal communications for the UK Bank, focussing on relationship management as well as operational support• Managing internal communications for UK financial results and several major issues and projects• Developing a sophisticated internal communications calendar and planning cycle including measurement and reportingFor the first half of 2011, I also led internal communications for the bank’s personal finance business, leading a team of 20 to deliver a wide range of communications in support of the business unit, ranging from a weekly television programme, face-to-face line manager briefing materials and content for various intranets.
