Environmental Health Specialist
CurrentInspects food service establishments, food processing plants, retail food stores and other food handling establishments for compliance Conducts site visits and reinspections to assure compliance Provides guidance and education to license holders, business and property owners and members of the public.Conducts plan reviews for temporary food service events, inspects food vendors for safe and sanitary food handling.Conduct investigations in response to complaints and environmental health concerns. Conducts plan reviews of new and remodeled food service establishments, mobile vendors, pushcarts and other food service establishments. Conducts plan reviews of public bathing facilities.Conducts pool-side testing and water sampling.Conducts routine inspections, site visits and reinspections of public bathing facilities for compliance Collects samples such as foods and water for routine analysis using aseptic technique.Calibrates field measuring devices such as thermometers and pH meters.Monitors and responds to FDA and USDA recalls that affect local food service establishments.Conduct foster home, child care and BOE school inspections.Conducts septic system plan reviews, test pit observations, and bed bottom inspections Develops training and educational materials, provides educational presentations on a broad range of environmental health subjects Writes and updates educational messaging regarding current and emerging environmental health issues.Conducts housing assessments for unsanitary living conditions and makes appropriate referrals to partner agencies.Interfaces with public and private agencies during routine duties and in the event of an emergency.Attends conferences, trainings, and technical seminars to remain current in industry standards.Responds to citizen and business complaints regarding infectious waste to include sharps, and safely removes such material for proper disposal when appropriate.
