For a disc jockey heading to the west coast in search of bigger things (and more rain apparently), I've had a pretty good career in television news. I stopped in at CBC Calgary in 1992 to visit a former instructor, was offered a 13 week, entry level contract and I'm still here. I spent 16+ years at CBC Newsworld. In that time I ran scripts to anxious anchors, fetched coffee and water, moved into Associate Producer jobs, then a national news writer, control room producer, network show producer, satellite and facilities coordinator, more writing... well you might get the idea. I’ve helped lead a newsroom through significant programming and technology changes while dealing with staff reductions. The thing I’ve found to be most valuable, despite changes in technology and delivery of information, is the people in this business. They are resilient, reliable and always deliver even in less than ideal situations. I’ve been very lucky to work with some of the best in the broadcasting business and learn from them.
