About Tim Read

Elected MP for Brunswick in November 2018, I believe Victoria must work harder to tackle the climate emergency, starting by rapidly weaning our state off coal and fossil gas.Contact me at www.timread.org.au or tim.read@parliament.vic.gov.auOther interests:- reforming our drug laws - prohibition has failed- reducing our rapidly growing prison population - prison should be a last resort, but right now too many low level offenders are denied bail and are further damaged by needless imprisonment.- reform state upper house voting to prevent preference manipulationPrior to the election I worked in clinical sexual health, diagnosing and treating sexually transmitted infections, including HIV. I have been working in HIV care since 1997 and my PhD studies covered the epidemiology and control of human papillomavirus (HPV), HIV and anal cancer (caused by HPV) in HIV-infected men who have sex with men. Research interests included HIV testing and the treatment of antibiotic-resistant sexually transmitted infections including Mycoplasma genitalium and Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
