Helped to establish a dedicated underwriting, due diligence and closing team, within the larger Barings Real Estate platform. Responsibilities included the following;o Overseeing the underwriting, analysis and closing of commercial real estate loans for MassMutual’s General Investment Account and for Barings third-party clients, with a focus on the Eastern and Central United States.o Submitted underwriting and due diligence investment packages to the internal investment committee charged with the approval of the loans.o Coordinated the due diligence process with a number of internal and external sources.o Inspected the proposed collateral and performed submarket and market research associated with the location of the collateral.o Analyzed financial statements and credit reports of the borrower/sponsor.o Supervised the underwriting and analysis of property level cash flow projections, loan metrics and property valuations of the proposed collateral.o Coordinated the loan closing process with the borrower/sponsor, outside counsel, in-house counsel, risk managers and in-house engineers.o Coordinated the transition of the loan to the asset management and servicing areas of Barings.o Provided company management with information regarding current market conditions, including supply, demand and competitor activity.o Provided support, oversight and training to junior underwriters and analysts.o Member of the Barings Real Estate Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) sub-committee.
