I was previously, for six years, the Head of the firm's Charity & Social Enterprise Sector Group.I am experienced in advising on all aspects of charity law and governance related issues for charities and social enterprises. My work involves, but is not limited to, advising on: • Appropriate charitable structures and then establishing new Charities and Social Enterprises • Governance issues and constitutional amendments• Establishing and operating trading subsidiaries• Relationships with commercial entities• Incorporation of unincorporated charities and restructuring, or conversion of different types of corporate charity• Advising on trustee liability issues• Risk management and policies• Insolvency and closure of charities, including risks for TrusteesI have a particular expertise in advising almshouses and faith-based charities on all aspects of charity law, governance and related issues. I have carried out a significant number of incorporations for Roman Catholic Religious Order charities as Charitable Incorporated Organisations (including the first ever such incorporation) as well as restructuring 4 Roman Catholic Diocesan charities. I am a frequent speaker at events organised by faith organisations such as the Association of Provincial Bursars, International Union of Superior Generals, Conference of Religious, the Catholic Charity Conference and the Almshouse Association.I have recently updated the "Standards of Almshouse Management (SAM)", for the Almshouse Association which is their benchmark manual made available to all their members.I am listed in the Legal 500 as being one of the leading individuals advising charities and social enterprises in the South West.I also have a background in dispute resolution, insolvency and risk management for charity clients and have a particular expertise in providing strategic and risk-based advice to steer clients through potential areas of dispute. I am an ADR Group accredited Mediator. In a voluntary capacity I am a trustee of two charities. In my spare time I have developed an interest in running half marathons, having completed two in the last two years and raising funds in both cases for locally-based charities.
