Do you remember networking before Ethernet and TCP/IP. I hate to admit that I am that old. I have been involved in what used to be the analog photography business, and the systems and equipment that automated analog. That led to microprocessor controls and first generation LAN protocols and data storage. And that led to leasing dry copper pairs and the very first SDSL hardware, and if you had an email address in 1982 you had really arrived. Then "DIX" Ethernet at 10 and "Fast" Ethernet at 100. Flash to 1997 and selling digital cameras at $50,000 and writable CD's at $30 each. In the next five years Ethernet migrated to GigE and fiber. CD's are 6 for buck and 12MP cameras are in everyone's phone.In 2012 I joined a community group to build a fibre optic network so I could operate Technicare's CTO from my mountain hideaway in Kaslo. in 2021 my community has 1 Gigabit fibre service available to everyone, and with 10 Gigabit deployable on the network we built. I am retired from the photo business, but a new venture ComXpertise is dedicated to providing the technology and methodology to other communities so they can build theirs as well.I can't believe I'm still doing this...Im not retired, just retreaded!
