About Tim Service
I lead the UK Mid and Small Cap Equity team at Jupiter, as well as managing a number of long only, directional long short and market neutral funds.I took over management of the equity market neutral strategy in 2014. In 2016 I launched a UCITS version of this strategy, known as the Jupiter UK Specialist fund. I raised nearly $1bn of assets from a broad range of clients around the world, before soft closing the fund to new investment. Over the decade of running this strategy, I have built a strong record of absolute returns, low volatility and low correlation to equity markets. The short book has delivered positive alpha nine out of the last ten years. I have also managed various long-only strategies since 2013, and have a strong track record versus benchmark, sustained over a long time. Bottom up stock picking analysis remains the foundation of my day to day work. I have been working on the Buyside since 2007, and started my career as a European Sellside research analyst in 2002 at ABN Amro and JPMorgan, specialising in consumer sectors.

I manage a UK Equity Long / Short Strategy, which focuses on UK Mid and Small Cap companies. The fund is run broadly market neutral, aiming for low volatility returns, uncorrelated to equity markets. The fund has a strong track record. I launched the UCITS version of this fund from scratch, raising about £650m of performance fee assets at peak, with a client base across Europe, Asia, Latin America as well as domestic UK investors. Throughout my time here, I have also been a sector analyst supporting the wider UK SMID long only funds, covering stocks from £50m to £10bn market cap. I also managed a long only segregated mandate for a number of years which delivered very strong performance in absolute and relative terms. Merian was acquired by Jupiter in 2020, and I moved with that deal.
