However I have also been involved in a number of major projects in the City.Developing the strategy has required the development of an understanding of the key contributors to the City's economy and the abilities of local government to affect economic development. The development of the strategy has involved considerable public consultation and seeking feedback from specific stakeholders such as government agencies, the Property Council of Australia and local interest groups. The strategy sets up mechanisms for continued data collection and analysis, which is something that has been missing at the local government level. The Strategy also recognises the continued importance of stakeholder input into the Council's economic development policies and to this end I have established an economic development advisory forum to the Council, which comprises a group of key academic and business leaders from across the City. This forum is proving to be very useful in terms of open and unbiased advice to the Council about some of its ideas and how to go about measuring them.I have also managed a number of projects and processes whilst in the position. For example the sale of key CBD sites, the management of expression of interest processes for land redevelopment (from car parks to aged care) and the proposed redevelopment of the former Hobart Zoo site. Such projects involve varying degrees of public consultation from simple phone surveys to on site community days using professional data research companies. The role has allowed me to develop an extensive network in the south of region in not only local government but also major property owners and developers in the City. These were networks that previous to my appointment were not as strong as the Council had wished for. One of my key roles has been to build these relationships. Show less -
