As HVAC Application Engineering Manager, I have the privilege to lead the industry’s best HVAC VFD application engineering team. This position provides me the opportunity to be involved in a variety of projects and events. While I only speak English, I consider myself to be multi-lingual, as one moment I may be talking to a consulting engineer on IEEE 519, the next to a controls contractor regarding BACnet MS/TP, followed by a conversation with a building owner on how VFDs will pay for themselves via energy savings, followed by helping a mechanical contractor with a quick VFD start-up. The multi-lingual portion comes into play when I change the terminology, analogies, and explanations to match up with the audience. I take pride in being knowledgeable in my "customer's world," allowing me to explain topics using their own terms. I enjoy spending the time to "teach someone to fish," opposed to simply providing an answer and moving on. I actively participate in the BACnet community with published articles, a member of the BACnet Marketing Committee, volunteering in the AHR BACnet booth, and presenting in BACnet sponsored educational tracks. I am the honored recipient of (2) BACnet International Awards: The 2014 Howler award and the 2017 BACnet Member of the Year. Below are some of the topics I enjoy discussing:• VFD Applications• Proper Installation & Commissioning of a VFD• IEEE 519• Harmonic Mitigation Solutions (impedance, passive filters, 18 pulse, active front end, etc)• How does a VFD Work• HVAC Systems (chillers, SF, RF, CHWP, CWP, CT, EF, etc)• Redundancy in System Design• Fully Utilizing the Features of a VFD• BACnet• Reducing Energy Consumption with VFDsWhen I'm taking some down time away from the office/field, you may find me with my wonderful wife and 2 boys camping, fishing, at a ball game, or enjoying some other outdoor activity.

I provided pre-sale support on AC drives with a focus on HVAC, water & wastewater, and machinery OEMs. Many of the HVAC and water projects were of the spec-bid-buy type, but I was also assigned to their largest OEM. I followed projects from quote to submittal to shipment. I also visited and did training sessions with consulting engineers. During my time.
This was my first job after graduating with an Electrical Engineering degree. Minarik Drives was a smaller company, which is great experience for any new graduate, as I was exposed to a little bit of everything. I learned first hand how successful a team can be when we don't use the "that's not my job" attitude, something I have applied later in my career..
