The regular home-visiting care is the more established type while brief home-visiting care started more recently. The first brief home-visiting care service began in August 2009 and during the next 3 years, 26 services followed. Brief home-visiting care has a maximum duration of 6 months.The main research goals are the providing of evidence for and the improvement of the effectiveness of brief home-visiting youth care. To accomplish these goals, we have distinguished 2 steps. The first step consists of the development of clear descriptions of the used interventions, services, and social and legal framework. We aim clear knowledge about these elements because it's impossible to evaluate or improve something that is unknown. The second step consists of an effectiveness study at micro (effects regarding the client) and macro (effects regarding the special youth care) level.In this research a practice-based or practice-driven research design is used. This implies that it is performed jointly with the services. For this, 3 main features have to be respected: connection with the practice (and their development phase), embedment in the practice (this implies that the research fits the daily work, questions and interest of social workers) and utilization of the results by the practice (therefore the results must be relevant and recognizable for practitioners).
